Welcome to the first newsletter for Every Body Therapy! I’m so happy you are here and interested in learning more about fat liberation work and my practice. Let’s jump in and take baby steps into learning about fat liberation work and breaking free from diet culture. If this is new to you (welcome) or you have been doing this work for ages, take your time. This is a journey. Parts of this work will feel countercultural and radical and you may need time to absorb this. (If you are looking for a place to process this work with other like minded people, I got you. Check out my group offerings below). Along the way, I will also share new developments and offerings at Every Body Therapy.
Let’s talk about language
I use the F word. Ok, if you know me, you know I use THAT one. But in this case I mean I use the term “fat” in my everyday language. I understand that many of us have a complicated, and often painful relationship with that word. For some, that word may feel judgmental. It may conjure up hurtful memories of times when it was hurled at us by people wishing to make us feel less than. I use it as a neutral descriptor, much like the words “short” or “quiet”. I also use terms like, person in a larger body. I do not use terms like “ob*se”. We have mountains of information about how ob*se is a BS term based on a BS metric (the BMI). Language is constantly evolving and changing and I plan to evolve and change with it.
What language do you use to talk about your body? How do those words make you feel about yourself? Do you want to explore using new language to talk about your body? Or maybe you want to change your relationship to the words you already use. Start to notice how you feel with the language you use.
Therapy Groups are Open!
I’m thrilled to announce the creation of two virtual therapy groups at Every Body Therapy. I’m actively recruiting for both groups and I will have a start date once I have enough members. If one or both feel interesting to you, feel free to reach out to me to get more information. Groups will be capped at 12 people and will be $65 per session.
Anti-Diet Support Group
If you are ready to jump into anti-diet work and want the support of other like minded folks this is the group for you! We will process how to live in a diet obsessed culture and how to stay grounded in anti-diet work while having a supportive community behind you. Some topics we will explore is diet culture, wellness culture, anti-fat bias, navigating relationships with folks who disagree with your anti-diet journey and many more! This is an open, rolling group. Wednesdays Time TBD based on group preferences. I am also holding space for a potential once a month Saturday check in for those who just can’t make weekdays work.
Body Trust® Group
Body Trust is a practice created by Dana Sturtevant and Hilary Kinavey that is centered around rebuilding the trust between you and your body. Some of the topics covered in this group are things like: learning your coping is rooted in wisdom, divesting from diet culture, ending the diet hustle, allowing for pleasure, reclaiming movement, and much more. You don’t have to be familiar with Body Trust to join, just a willingness to learn about another way of being in relationship with your body. This group will last 12 weeks and take place on. Monday evenings 6-7:30pm Mountain Time.
