I am a cis white woman in a thin body. I struggle with a mostly invisible illness that occasionally requires the use of mobility devices and supports. I recognize that my life experiences may share some similarities with you, but may also be vastly different as a result of my privileges.
I was born and raised in a small town in the Midwest. I was around 5 when I started having my first thoughts of my body as a “problem”. I struggled with an eating disorder as a teenager and due to the above privileges, my symptoms were eventually taken seriously by doctors and I was able to get treatment. I received my undergraduate degree in psychology at St. Norbert College and my Master’s and Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from The University of St. Thomas.
I spent my early career working in community mental health and spent much of that time working with unhoused folks and in Integrated Care. As part of my practice, I committed to additional training in HAES, Intuitive Eating, Eating Disorder Harm Reduction, and social justice and liberatory practices. In 2023 I received my Body Trust® Provider Certification. I’m a member of the Association for Size Diversity and Health (ASDAH) and I volunteer facilitating groups with the Eating Disorder Foundation.
When I’m not working I am spending time with my husband and my dog, Toast. I like puzzles, paddleboarding, baking, and planning my ever-expanding vegetable garden.
I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) along with other evidenced based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) . I also practice from a Harm Reduction perspective.
I’m a PSYPACT therapist meaning I am able to work with clients who live in PSYPACT participating states. You can see if your state is part of PSYPACT here. Every Body Therapy is located in Denver, CO and all sessions are virtual.
